Frequently asked questions
The things we get asked most — about raw feeding, natural treats and grooming. If your question isn’t answered here, give us a ring or drop us an email and we’ll talk it through.
Feeding, storing and choosing
I’m new to raw feeding. Can you help?
Of course. Pop into the shop and we’ll help you understand the different brands, proteins and options available, so you can find a suitable place to start for your dog.
Do you stock complete raw meals?
Yes. We stock a carefully selected range of complete raw meals, as well as other raw-food options from trusted brands. Check the individual product description or ask us if you’re unsure which product you need.
Do you stock every flavour and pack size?
We may not always have every flavour or pack size available in the shop or online. If there’s something specific you’re looking for, please get in touch and we’ll do our best to order it for you.
How should I store raw dog food?
Raw food should be kept frozen and defrosted safely in the fridge before feeding. Always follow the storage and feeding instructions shown on the individual product packaging.
Are your natural treats suitable for puppies?
Many of our natural treats are suitable for puppies, but the recommended age varies depending on the product, size and hardness of the chew. Please check the individual product description or contact us if you’re unsure.
Should dogs be supervised with natural chews?
Yes. Dogs should always be supervised while enjoying treats and chews, with fresh drinking water available. Choose a chew that is appropriate for your dog’s size and chewing style, and remove any small pieces that could be swallowed whole.
Do you offer delivery or Click & Collect?
Yes. Free Click & Collect is available from our Gidea Park shop, with orders usually ready within two hours. We deliver locally for £6.99 within five miles of the shop, and to the rest of UK Mainland for £3.99. Because raw food and dog ice cream need to stay frozen, orders that include them can only be collected or delivered locally. See our Delivery & Click & Collect page for full details.
Appointments, pricing and what to expect
How much will my dog’s groom cost?
Our listed prices are starting prices. The final cost depends on your dog’s breed, size, coat type, coat condition and the time required. We’ll always discuss your dog’s needs with you before beginning their groom.
How often should my dog be groomed?
Most dogs benefit from a regular grooming routine, but the ideal frequency depends on their breed and coat type. Full Grooms are generally recommended every 6–8 weeks, while Bath & Blow-Dries can help maintain the coat between appointments.
When should my puppy have their first groom?
We recommend introducing puppies to grooming once their vaccinations are complete, ideally from around 12–16 weeks old. Our Puppy Introduction is available for puppies up to six months old and is designed to build confidence through a calm and positive first experience.
What does a Puppy Introduction include?
A Puppy Introduction includes a gentle bath, blow-dry, brush, ear clean and nail trim, with plenty of time and reassurance. It does not include a full coat cut and focuses on preparing your puppy for future grooming appointments.
My dog is nervous — can they still be groomed?
Absolutely. Nervous dogs are given extra time, patience and reassurance, with breaks when needed. Please let us know about any worries, sensitivities or previous grooming experiences when booking so we can make their visit as comfortable as possible.
What happens if my dog has fleas?
If fleas are found during the appointment, an additional £15 charge will apply. This covers specialist flea shampoo and the thorough cleaning and disinfection of the grooming area to protect the other dogs visiting the salon.
Can I add extra treatments to my dog’s groom?
Yes. We offer a selection of optional treatments, including teeth cleaning, a paw and nose treatment, luxury facial, deep-conditioning treatment, de-shedding mud spa, tick removal and ear plucking. Availability will depend on what is suitable for your dog.
How do I book an appointment?
You can book online through Tuft, call us on 01708 768477 or email info@houseofpawsessex.co.uk.
Do I need to pay a deposit?
Yes. A 25% deposit is required to secure your appointment and will be deducted from the final cost of the groom.
What happens if I need to cancel or move my appointment?
Appointments can be moved or cancelled without losing the deposit when more than 48 hours’ notice is given. Deposits are non-refundable when less than 48 hours’ notice is provided.
Just ask — we don’t mind the odd question
Whether it’s a first raw meal or a nervous puppy’s first groom, we’d rather talk it through than have you guess.
